A cavity can look quite displeasing on your teeth, ruining the overall appearance of your smile. They are primarily caused due to the microbes in the tartar deposits - the dark patches found on the teeth, especially near the intersection of teeth or near the gum line. Cavities have to be restored using fillings to ensure they do not grow deeper or wider, as this could put the entire tooth at risk of failure.

What are dental fillings?

Fillings are putty-like material applied to a cavity to fill them. This ensures the tooth is restored to its ideal contour, functionality, and structural integrity. Fillings were earlier made from metals, such as gold, silver, and amalgam. But, they had several drawbacks that led to the development of aesthetic fillings made from tooth-colored material. In recent times, we use ceramic or composite fillings, as they offer superior properties.
